Windows 10 End of Life

Windows 10 End of Life: What Your Business Needs to Know

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 will officially reach End of Life on 14 October 2025. After this date, the operating system will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.

While your devices won’t stop working overnight, continuing to run an unsupported OS poses real risks to your business—including increased vulnerability to cyber threats, compliance challenges, and compatibility issues with modern software.

Why This Matters

Technology evolves rapidly—and keeping your systems up to date is critical for:

  • Security: Without updates, Windows 10 devices become easy targets for cyberattacks and malware.
  • Compliance: Many data protection regulations require supported software to safeguard sensitive information. Running outdated systems could put your business at risk of non-compliance.
  • Performance: Unsupported systems are more likely to suffer from bugs, slow performance, and problems with new applications or hardware.

What You Need To Do

To stay protected and avoid disruption, we recommend reviewing your systems now and planning ahead. Key steps include:

  • Upgrade to Windows 11: If your current hardware is compatible, upgrading ensures your systems remain secure and supported.
  • Check Device Compatibility: Not all Windows 10 machines meet Windows 11’s requirements. Older devices may need to be replaced.
  • Consider Extended Support: Microsoft will offer a paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme—but it’s designed as a short-term bridge, not a permanent solution.
  • Know What You’re Running: The current version, Windows 10 22H2, will receive updates until the end-of-support date—but no further feature enhancements are planned.

What If You Don’t Upgrade

If you continue using Windows 10 beyond October 2025, your business may face:

  • A significantly higher risk of cyberattacks and data breaches
  • Limited or no support from Microsoft if something goes wrong
  • Compatibility issues with new software, apps, and peripherals
  • Potential non-compliance with data protection regulations
